Mother’s Day is this weekend (just in case you forgot, it's this Sunday). Hopefully, you get to spend some time with your mom. My mom and I love to go to brunch together. Where else can we have our favorite sweet breakfast treats and savory lunch snacks? Something about combining breakfast and lunch invites us to linger for hours. It doesn't matter if we’re at a swanky hotel or a small town diner, it's always a good memory. For your own relaxing brunches, here’s a mellow mix for you and your mom:
- “Shake It Off” by Us the Duo. We’ve added this song to playlists before. There’s just no defense against Taylor Swift’s infectious dance beat. In this version, Us the Duo gives the “haters gonna hate” message a chill, indie vibe.
- “You Are My Sunshine” by Elizabeth Mitchell. Doesn't this song remind you of being a kid? It’s a lullaby parents sing to their children, but kids also sing it to their parents. Probably the cutest song ever. And Elizabeth Mitchell’s version captures that nostalgia perfectly.
- “Sweet Caroline” by Neil Diamond. In South Carolina, this song is a staple at all gatherings. “Good times never seem so good” without Neil Diamond. With this on your playlist, you can carry a little South Carolina beach with you.
- “Where the River Don’t Flow” by Liz Green. I like the old-school jazz feel of this song. Liz Green is UK-born artist known for her unique, last century style. If you’re looking for something truly indie, she’s a good bet. And I can’t get her songs out of my head.
- “I’m Yours/Somewhere Over the Rainbow” by Straight No Chaser. Chances are, the last time you heard Straight No Chaser was December. They’re famous for their a cappella Christmas songs, but their non-seasonal hits rock too. Like this fantastic Jason Mraz/Wizard of Oz mash-up. It will put smiles on both you and your mom’s faces.
